Hospices resp. specialised palliative care in long-term care

formative works has conducted a benefit study on the qualitative and quantitative aspects of specialized palliative care in long-term care and hospices.

From a qualitative point of view, it was determined for which patients specialised palliative care (SPC) is needed in large long-term care institutions or autonomous hospices and what the benefits are. This distinction is important in the Swiss system due to the financing.

From a quantitative point of view, it was estimated for how many patients autonomous hospices are suitable. Moreover, the comparative costs of a care in a hospice and large institutions for elderly care have been estimated. This was shown from the point of view of patients, relatives, specialists or referring physicians, and the care sectors. In addition, health care costs have been compared and a financing model was proposed.
