Healthcare-associated infections (HAI) are a common problem in healthcare. Even though Switzerland is at 6 percent of the European average (2017 survey), the untapped potential of 35-55% preventable HAI must be addressed quickly in order to reduce complications, suffering and costs.
The needs analysis examined two issues:
- Lack of competence, knowledge and know-how among staff in health care facilities to ensure appropriate infection prevention.
- Appropriate measures to acquire missing competences.
The analysis was aimed at two target groups:
- Health professionals with direct patient contact (excluding staff specialising in infection prevention)
- Persons in management positions in health care facilities (hospital & nursing homes), who are responsible for resource allocation.
